London - The place to be this Christmas

London - The place to be this Christmas

London is a fabulous place to visit at any time of the year, but especially at Christmas.  Certainly there are other cities to see, both in Europe and further afield, with their trendy Christmas activities and highly decorated buildings, although nothing quite beats the magic of London.   From the majestic and iconic River Thames weaving its wondrous route through the city, spectacularly lit with twinkling decorations, to the famous historical buildings along the river bank, bejewelled with festive adornments-making this the most recognisable festive city on earth.

Many people ask what makes London so special at Christmas.  Well, the answer is simple.  As well as London’s 2000 years of history to explore at this time of year, there are also a plethora of wonderful events and attractions on offer to make your Christmas time truly special.

Christmas activities and unmissable delights, unique to London, make coming here a really special experience to be cherished and remembered- London has it all.  So less of the ‘Bah Humbug’ approach to Christmas….why not ‘don’ your smartest Santa hat and prepare yourself for the some of the best, unmissable delights of the season.  You won’t regret it!

Here are just a few of the things that contribute to making London so spectacular at Christmas.  The list is by no means exhaustive, but will help to whet your appetite and put you in the festive spirit.

London - The place to be this Christmas

Christmas Light Displays

London manages to overcome the dark and dreary winter nights in December by providing us with thousands of spectacular light displays all over the city.  Oxford Street alone, London’s fabulous shopping area, will transform the skies with over 750,000 twinkly lights.  Additionally, department stores such as Harrods and Hamleys toy store, will surpass themselves again with festive makeovers in their shop windows and sparkling light extravaganzas, providing the most truly mesmerising illuminations imaginable. Central London, never to be outdone, adds that festive touch of sophistication and (let’s be honest), bling, to the proceedings, with landmarks such as Trafalgar Square’s enormous Christmas tree resplendent in Yuletide gaiety, with its gleaming array of lights delighting your every thought.

Everywhere you look a glorious plethora of ostentatious glitz awaits you. Examples can be found all over the city, from Carnaby Street, Kensington and Knightsbridge with their unique range of shops, to the world famous Kew Gardens, whose Christmas spectaculars provide an amazing treat for visitors. With laser displays, giant baubles and singing trees to astound you, what’s not to like? This, along with the mile long, twinkling path of over a million Christmas lights illuminating ancient trees and buildings, will leave you with a festive glow like no other, (apart from that acquired by the odd sherry or two!)

If you prefer to be guided to London’s prettiest Xmas illuminations, then why not try the unique Christmas Lights Bike Tour? On this 2 hour, unforgettable tour, you’ll be able to witness many of London’s famous landmarks and buildings, festooned with thousands of lights and decorations.   You’ll also experience a few of London’s glorious festive markets, enabling you to pick up a quirky gift or two, along with hearing a range of  hilarious tales about London’s history.  A great experience that only London can provide.

London’s Christmas markets, Fairs and Festivals

If you want to be at the centre of London’s festive events then head on down to some of the world’s best Christmas markets.  Although other countries may have the snow to create Yuletide nostalgia, London isn’t without its fair share of atmosphere!  Covent Garden is a prime example of this and is utterly irresistible at Christmas.  Its stylish stores, market buildings and cobbled square give it an air of bygone days.  Here you can savour the beauty of Christmas whilst meandering below the many elegant mistletoe chandeliers.  You could combine your gift finding experience with a quality meal within the piazza, where you can take a break from the Christmas hustle and bustle whilst listening to a range of street entertainers.  Alternatively, try sampling some of the food from many of the capital’s finest street vendors, selling every conceivable multicultural dish known to man - an experience not to be missed.  Many other such markets are dotted all over London, the Southbank Centre Wintertime Market and Hyde Park Winter Wonderland to name just two.  Selling a plethora of hand crafted offerings and foodie gifts, visiting these venues will certainly put you in the festive spirit, and you’ll also be in the midst of some superb seasonal events into the bargain.  Alternatively, if you want a venue combining 17th C London architecture with the 19C nostalgia of the Cutty Sark tea clipper whilst browsing, then the Greenwich Wintertime Festival will certainly provide an unforgettable wintertime festival experience.  Within the world heritage listed Old Royal Naval College, this very intimate festival/market will appeal to everyone.  You’ll be entertained comprehensively by theatre, street performers, live music and children’s shows, along with being able to taste some of London’s finest festive favourites.  This magical wonderland is made complete by a visit to Santa and his Greenwich launch pad, as he gets ready for his Christmas deliveries. Wander amongst the 500 Christmas trees or marvel at the incredible ice skating performed by world class skaters in this fantastic Christmas destination, unique to London.

Visit Santa

Whilst on the subject of the big man himself, although he is super busy at this time of year, Santa always makes a point of visiting our incredible city, turning up in the strangest London venues imaginable!  His hideaways at the London Zoo and the winter paradise of the London Wetland Centre for example, will delight young and old alike.  Santa may originate from Lapland, yet here in this wildlife wonderland you will experience exciting sleigh rides with huskies, making your Christmas complete.  Alternatively, you could opt for a winter sightseeing tour on the Thames with Santa, where adults can enjoy mulled wine and mince pies while sailing by London’s famous landmarks, whilst Santa distributes a range of goodies to the children on board.

Only in London! - Enjoy London’s quirkier activities

Great Christmas Pudding Race

No other capital in the world can boast such bizarre, yet entertaining, fun filled Christmas days out as the 38th annual Great Christmas Pudding Race, which takes place in Covent Garden.  Imagine 150 Christmas puddings tackling a festive obstacle course, hurtling around obstacles including foam jets and flour-filled balloons, whilst negotiating and balancing Christmas puds on paper plates and you pretty much have it.  It’s all in aid of Cancer Research UK.  Teams of 6 can register to compete, or you can simply show up and support to have a fun day out.

Doggy Style Christmas Market

London has always been a city of dog lovers- and the’Doggy Style Christmas Market’ typifies the unique Christmas activities that London has to offer.  You’d be ‘barking mad’ (get it?) to miss the opportunity to pick up a stocking-filler of luxe doggy accessories from this canine themed market, with stalls full of ‘houndy’ goodies for our four legged friends. Dare we say it?  ‘Happy howlidays.’

London Pantomime Horse Race

Alternatively, why not forget the Grand National and prepare for the horsey fun at the London Pantomime Horse Race?  Certainly one of the world’s daftest and wackiest of annual events, this ‘Race Day’ event features over 30 costumed nags, dressed in the style of iconic Film & TV characters.  Panto-Horse teams must navigate various pit-stops and unexpected obstacles during the quarter mile street race.

Take a trip to the Panto or Theatre Land

London has that special ‘wow factor’ at any time, but especially at Christmas, when it comes to its world class theatre.  Taking in one of the capital’s seasonal extravaganzas will make any visit complete.  From musicals and operas featuring famous artistes, to traditional pantos like Snow White or Aladdin in historic venues like The London Palladium or The Royal Albert Hall.  The latter is beautifully transformed into an enchanting Christmas experience of music, dance, film, comedy and much more, so why not take your visit to a new level and pay them a visit?

Ice Skating in the Capital

During the ‘Little Ice Age’ during the 17th-19th C, ice skating was common during the winter on the River Thames.  No longer unfortunately, as the river freezes over no longer, however London still boasts many glorious venues where you can skate in enchanting surroundings to your hearts content.

The famous Natural History Museum is home to one such ice rink. With the elegant backdrop of the Waterhouse building and surrounded by the magical trees laced with fairy lights, you can glide majestically around the beautifully adorned Christmas tree.  With indoor café, bar and viewing balcony overlooking the ice you can also enjoy a restful drink or a toasted marshmallow after your skate.  Another stunning setting is Somerset House, whose 18thC courtyard is the place for a winter escapade.  This 900 sq m outdoor rink is ideal for families and you can combine skating with winter dining at the famous Fortnum Lodge, which offers champagne and mulled wine.  The Fortnum’s Christmas Arcade and the ‘Skate Lates’, (a range of programmed events throughout the winter period), are also unmissable treats.

Celebrate a Traditional Christmas in London

Experience the Christmas of long ago.

London does Christmas traditions like no other city on earth.  If you want to experience a Christmas of yesteryear, then there’s nowhere better than Hampton Court Palace.  Here you can take part in a range of yuletide activities, like finding out about food and cooking in Christmases past and discover how the Tudors celebrated.  You could even join the Christmas ghost tales or create a Victorian Christmas, in a hands-on workshop.

Go Carolling

Sometimes people are so engrossed in their preparations, that the real meaning of Christmas is often forgotten.   So why not be a part of the traditional Christmas carols and services at a range of venues throughout the Capital?  St Paul’s Cathedral holds a charming Christmas day church service, whilst the Albert Hall’s ‘Carols by Candlelight’ is a true delight.  And for a real sense of what makes London so special at Christmas, head off to Trafalgar Square.  This iconic venue has been the setting of many glorious celebrations in the past and forms the backdrop for a magnificent Christmas tree, donated by the people of Norway each year to express their gratitude for Britain’s support during WW2.  Around this tree, choirs perform atmospheric carol concerts in the run up to Christmas, which everyone can sing along to, creating a very moving, reflective and peaceful, break from the frenzy of the day.

So there you have it…. Christmas in London has always been special because it has everything that you could possibly want in a city at this time.  Its fabulous culture, heritage and tradition combined with the incredible façade of modern day London, undergo a major, festive transformation, making London ablaze with colour.   Added to this all the vibrant, yuletide activities on offer, along with the wealth of superb stores and attractions available to you and you have everything in the mixing pot to make London one of the most recognisable and visited, festive cities in the world.

Euracom Comment

London certainly has everything to make your Christmas trip truly unforgettable. From the ‘oh so silly’ Christmas pudding races, that could only happen in London, to the range of superb shows and pantos in the finest, most iconic theatres in the world.  Add to this London’s unbeatable skyline with its awe inspiring, magnificent architecture, decorated in all its festive glory and you have it all.  Combine everything together and you have a holiday made in heaven.  London is one of the most celebrated and recognisable cities on the planet!  Don’t just take our word for it!  Why not come and experience it for yourself and sample some of London’s unmissable Christmas delights? You certainly won’t regret it!

If you decide on an extended stay we suggest you opt for a serviced apartment rather than a hotel stay.  Not only will you be more comfortable in your own, luxurious surroundings which we regard as a ‘home from home’, but you’ll avoid the often expensive, yet impersonal experience of a hotel.  Euracom has a vast range of comfy apartments for short or longer stays, all at the most competitive rates.  Here are 3 of this month’s featured apartments.  Why not check out what they can offer?

Brexit - What will happen?

Brexit-What will happen?

Whatever your opinion on Brexit, whether you’re a staunch Brexiteer or a determined Remainer, there is one thing that is absolutely certain- there has rarely been a time in Britain’s long past that has so divided the British public.  So whether you voted ‘for’ or ‘against’ Brexit during the referendum you’ll obviously be asking the question on everyone’s lips…How will Brexit affect me?

It’s a confusing time for both politics, individuals and businesses and certainly at this point in time, despite the Governments best efforts to broker a deal with Europe how it will all turn out currently looks rather uncertain.

Questions people are asking

Brexit-What will happen?

From the time it was decided to leave the EU, the main question that many travellers have been asking has been;    ‘What will be the impact on those travelling to and from Europe?

There have been numerous opinions from all the so called ‘experts’, yet no one knows for sure, as yet, what will happen once Brexit has taken place.  It’s bound to take some time before the dust settles, however in the short term it’s unlikely that much will change for business travellers moving between Europe and the UK, although there could inevitably be additional bureaucracy if a deal with the EU isn’t forthcoming.  Longer term, it’s likely that visas will be required for UK business travellers when visiting Europe, although this factor will undoubtedly be discussed during our withdrawal negotiations.

With regard to health insurance cards issued by the EU- these remain valid and passengers' rights will still apply.   However when we finally leave the EU, those countries remaining will negotiate any future deals.

If a deal is struck, travellers to and from the UK will only need their passports to travel, so travel for meetings, conferences and other business purposes should not be affected.

Travel Costs

Since the UK decided to exit the EU, a significant impact has been the drop in the value of the pound against the US dollar, resulting in the cost of travel and hotel rates possibly becoming more expensive.  This factor alone might dissuade international visitors to the UK initially but there is also another factor to consider in that  even if a deal is struck with the EU, despite visas not being required by European visitors, they will still need to travel on a passport,  making it more difficult for them to come to the UK on holiday.  At present all that’s required for EU citizens to visit other countries in the Union is a national ID card. Because of this passport ownership in countries with ID cards is far lower than in the UK.  This could have a an impact on Britain’s inbound tourist industry, as many people won’t bother going through all the expense of obtaining a passport just to come here, especially when they have 29 other countries they can visit at a lesser expense.  Furthermore, air travel in particular could be hit, as aviation fuel and airlines often deal in the US dollar, so fares will probably rise as a consequence.

This said though, Britain will still be a magnet to travellers, due to the wealth of fantastic tourist destinations around the UK and despite there being some potential setbacks in getting here, people will still want to visit. Tourism may take a little time to recover, but the current weak pound will help, as visitors will get much more for their money as their exchange rates will be better.

The question raised by many UK companies, is inevitably;

‘How will Brexit affect businesses within the UK?

Currently, any UK business exporting to Europe will benefit from the weaker pound, meaning both services and goods will be less expensive.  However the weaker pound will have a few negative repercussions, and could cause losses for some industries.   Yet the pound has bounced back steadily over the past year, and if the present rate of recovery continues it will almost certainly recover to its former value.  However, because of the current uncertainty as to what will happen when we leave the EU next year, UK companies are understandably concerned about their future.  Certainly Brexit does represent somewhat of a challenge to UK industries.  Larger businesses and global companies will probably be less affected and should be able to absorb losses, if any, taking less of a hit than smaller enterprises.   Alternatively, smaller concerns may be more exposed and vulnerable.  Depending on the deal we get Brexit could cause them a few problems, although overall it’s unlikely that there will be a really noticeable effect on businesses.  In fact, depending on the outcome of our negotiations with Brussels, leaving the EU could be really beneficial to our trade and industry and be very much to our advantage.  The bottom line is that it will take a very hard Brexit to damage business too badly.

The work force for manual industries like construction have, for many years been supplemented by overseas labourers from Europe and indeed, further afield.  This foreign workforce has given these businesses the opportunity to flourish, as foreign labour is often cheaper than British.  When we leave the EU, there could be some repercussions in this sector due to new border restrictions laws which will undoubtedly be implemented.  This may mean that ‘manual sector businesses’ will pay more for their labour, resulting in a knock on effect to the consumer.  However it could ultimately open up more opportunities and be beneficial to British workers seeking such jobs.

The future

A crystal ball would certainly come in handy at this point and the ability to see into the future would undoubtedly be an advantage, where the pros and cons of Brexit are concerned!  What we can be sure of is

that whatever the outcome, good or bad, Britain will do its utmost to get the deal that best encompasses everyone’s interests.  Brexit may not please everyone, and the final outcome remains to be seen, but the democratic decision to leave the EU has to be honoured and implemented.

What we all need to remember is that leaving the EU is very complicated and something that has never been attempted before, so we are breaking into ‘virgin territory’ so to speak, with regard to what will happen.  We’re entering an era of great economic and political adjustment, the likes of which many have never seen before and we therefore need to make the most of this change.  It may take a few years for us to leave the EU entirely, and nobody knows for sure, (not even the experts) how everyone will be affected.   Brexit has a minefield of factors to consider, from the new border and immigration restrictions, to how international trade will be affected, so buckle up, get ready and embrace everything that Brexit throws at us!

Euracom Comment

In these uncertain ‘post referendum’ times for Britain, when Brexit negotiations lurch from one stumbling block to another, one thing is certain-the British people always rise to whatever challenge they are faced with.  So whatever the outcome, we will get on with it and make the best of things.

What’s more, we here at Euracom will do our utmost to provide the outstanding service that we have always been renowned for.   Our overseas customers, corporate clients, students and other travellers have said that Euracom provides incredible accommodation at the most affordable prices within the capital.

In the wake of Brexit, you can rest assured that nothing at Euracom will change.  You’ll still be able to stay in quality accommodation, far less expensive than the equivalent quality hotel.  You’ll still get the same level of safety and security features which are so important to our visitors, and you’ll also receive the welcome and home comforts that people have come to expect from Euracom.  So even though there is change on the horizon, these factors alone should encourage you to visit the glorious city of London.  Whether you are a seasoned tourist, corporate traveller on business or a student looking to relocate to London, there is something for everyone at Euracom.  So why not give us a call today?  Or check out our 3 featured serviced apartments below, aimed at students. How to live like a Londoner

‘When in Rome…’ is a classic phrase used widely to refer to the importance of adapting yourself to do what’s  customary/ typical in a particular place or setting and behave like the locals of that area would.  An example of using this saying could be…. “Are you certain we should be eating this rice with our hands?” Answer: “Well why not? Everyone here is eating it that way, so “When in Rome- do as the Romans do!”

As any discerning traveller will tell you, the best way to really blend in and get to know the place that you’re visiting is to get in and mingle with the locals.  So, although we aren’t in Rome at present, as London is definitely the place to be, this month we’ll be looking at a few tips to help you to ‘Live like a Londoner’, enabling you to adjust yourself to a few of London’s customs, eccentricities and habits, some most certainly quirkier than others!

Top tips to ‘Live like a Londoner’

  1. Use Public Transport
    1. The Tube……The underground is a safe, cheap, easily navigated way of travelling everywhere around London. It’s great when trying to get around quickly and efficiently. However, a word of warning, avoid rush hour and always stand on the right on the escalators to avoid the wrath of daily commuters!
    2. London Buses…. Alternatively you could opt for the famous London bus, (unmissable as they’re bright red!)   A more leisurely experience, allowing you to take in London’s superb city sights whilst travelling from A to B.
  2. Invest in an Oyster Card, or go Contactless
Whilst in London, you’ll probably rely heavily on public transport when travelling, as taxis are expensive.  You can buy daily travel cards and one-way tickets, although it’s easier and cheaper to use a pay as you go Oyster Card, which you can top up as required.  They’re available in advance online, from the station or newsagents.  Alternatively use the ‘contactless’ facility on your credit/debit card.   Note- You can’t pay your London bus fare with cash.
  3. Hail a Taxi!
If you are part of a large party, a cab may work out cheaper, however the meter tots up quickly, so beware!  As regards tipping, expectations vary depending on the kind of taxi you use.
    1. Black cabs
These are hailed easily but are expensive, although they have a highly knowledgeable driver. Usually payment is in cash with a tip of 10%.
    2. Minicabs
These are booked through a minicab office or by phone and are usually cheaper. Tipping is appreciated but not compulsory.
    3. Uber cars.
Booked via an app, these cabs are fast and cheap. Your fare is conveniently automatically deducted from your credit card. If you choose to give cash tips they’ll be appreciated, yet aren’t expected.
  4. Dress the part
When it comes to dress code, almost anything goes.  The weather, it has to be said is often ‘changeable’ to put it politely, so often dominates our wardrobe.  It’s therefore sensible to play safe and opt for that layered look when sightseeing, with shout walking shoes/boots and a raincoat, unless it’s high summer.  Locals dress fairly casually, even office workers, except for those who work in London’s business districts like The City and Canary Wharf, where suits usually prevail.  It’s sensible to have a few smarter alternatives too, as higher end hotels like The Savoy, have strict dress guidelines; ie a no-sportswear policy.  Generally though, casual tops/jeans are the norm, even in many of our famous theatres, although getting dressed up is, of course great on these occasions.  If you don’t wish to stand out as being ‘touristy’, avoid wearing the ‘kiss me quick’ hats, and the ‘I love London’ tee-shirts within the capital!  Concerning bags- ensure yours is secure enough to carry your valuables.  Make it small enough to carry any essentials, but leave your valuables like passports, spare credit/debit cards and ID cards in your hotel safe.
  5. Shop the Markets
Many residents head off to the London markets to shop for local produce or for a relaxing coffee/ reasonably priced lunch.  Firm favourites for Londoners include Colombia Road Flower Market, Portobello Road and Brick Lane Markets, and Greenwich, yet these are also frequented by visitors, who enjoy bagging a bargain or two. Visiting these bustling places gives tourists and Londoners alike, an insight into the real London, away from more famous, expensive attractions.  So go on, immerse yourself in the excellent street food and other fine crafts and trinkets that you’ll find at these amazing places.
  6. Visit the Pub
While visiting London make a point of having a pint, in one of the city’s fabulous pubs! There is a plethora of bars popular with residents, serving anything from craft beers to cocktails.  Remember to take advantage of ‘Happy Hours’ where drinks are often reduced in price, as London is an expensive place to have a night out!  Nightclubs are common throughout the city, although are always very crowded with tourists, so often avoided by residents. So to get a true picture of real London, try opting one evening for a local pub, where you might get a reasonably priced meal too.  Why not try these as a start?   The Victorian Bath House; Call Me Mr Lucky; Mayor of Scaredy-Cat Town and Cahoots.  Mostly unknown to those other than locals, these are the ideal venues if you want to experience London like Londoners do.
  7. Check out less ‘touristy’ eateries
Try ditching the typical ‘restaurant chains’ that we’re all guilty of frequenting, and embark on something more exciting whilst in the capital?  Londoners certainly sample the range of delicious meals at numerous food stalls and local restaurants within their area.  London’s quieter streets often boast the best eating experiences and are better value for money too, so go on a food hunt to see what’s available!  Its multi-cultural influence has made London one of the best places to eat in the world, with dishes originating from every corner of the globe, so there’s something to suit everyone’s taste and budget.  So shop around, you won’t regret it! For instance, why not try the Welsh Rarebit, sourdough, poached egg and onion jam at ‘Caravan’ in Exmouth Market? Alternatively, try ‘The Modern Pantry’, near St Paul’s, where you’ll enjoy slow-roast tomatoes, plantain fritters and grilled chorizo.
  8. Take a stroll
Londoners love to get out into this surprisingly green city.  In fact, did you realise almost half of the city consists of green space?  There are, for example, 8 stunning Royal Parks making a delightful backdrop to the hustle and bustle of the busy streets and thoroughfares. During the summer these are populated with Londoners and visitors alike; sunbathing, playing games and having picnics, whilst in winter the parks are no less spectacular.  A crisp walk, wrapped up snuggly in scarves and hats, surrounded by natural beauty, lovely lakes and exquisite architecture, certainly becomes one of the highlights of visiting our capital in winter.  Top that with a hot chocolate in one of the heated lidos and you have a marriage made in heaven!
  9. Try Pedal Power
Aside from walking, London’s famous sites can be seen in greater detail by hiring a bike.  Perfect for sightseeing and working off excess calories, consumed during your stay, these can be hired cheaply and make an inexpensive way of touring the capital.  Many residents happily avoid the daily traffic jams (and congestion charge associated with car travel in the city centre), by biking to work.  So why not give it a go?
  10. Learn the Lingo
Finally, Londoners are a funny lot…..friendly, but funny!  Not least with their strange sayings, so you’ll certainly hear a range of them on the streets.  Learn a few and you’ll definitely be a hit with the locals. In fact you may even become one!   So loosen up those vocal chords and give them a try!
    1. "Faff" means to waste time doing very little, coming from the 17thC word "faffle," meaning to flap about in the wind. Eg “We were just faffing around on the beach.”
    2. "Fag" is a cigarette.  "Fag ends" are also the last bits near the end of a reel of fabric, making up the worst bits, so in the past "fags" were the cheapest cigarettes. Now though, this slang word has spread to mean all cigarettes.  Eg- "Can I have a fag please?"
    3. "Geezer" A very suave or dapper man and is widely used within London. Eg -“He’s a lovely geezer.”
    4. "Cream crackered" is rhyming slang for "knackered," or exhausted.  During the 19th/20th C, ‘knackers’ were people who killed worn-out horses for hide and meat.  So, those who were ‘ready for the knacker's yard,’ were tired beyond any relief. Eg- I'm really cream- crackered."
    5. "Doddle" An easy task is known as a "doddle."   Eg- "This is going to be a doddle."
    6. "Gobsmacked"   means bewildered, shocked or astounded.  "Gob" is another word for mouth, so being gobsmacked means you're shocked and cover your mouth in disbelief.
    7. "Gutted"   Contrary to being disembowelled like a fish, anyone who is gutted is very upset. Eg- "I am really gutted I didn’t get the job.”
    8. "Miffed" - Rather annoyed. It comes from the German word "muffen," meaning "to sulk."  Eg- "I’m rather miffed about that."
    9. "Spend a penny" A polite yet novel way of saying you are going to the toilet. In Victorian times, to use public toilets, women had to pay a penny for the privilege. Eg-“Hang on, I need to spend a penny!”
    10. Pop your clogs"   Means to die!  In the past workers wore clogs to protect their feet. When they "cocked" or “popped” their clogs, their feet pointed upwards as they lay down dead.  Eg-“Poor old bloke has popped his clogs.”
    11. "Round" – means to take a turn in buying a drink for your friends in the pub.  Eg- "Whose round is it now? Yours?”
    12. "Zonked"   Exhausted; tired.  Eg- "I want dinner but I’m really zonked."

So here are a few ‘do’s and don’ts - if you want to live like a Londoner!

Do carry an umbrella, as it does rain a lot in London.

Don’t tip barmen/women, although you can tip in restaurants, if a service-charge hasn’t already been added.

Do use a knife and fork in restaurants, and remember your pleases and thankyous!

Don’t talk about Brexit. It’s a touchy subject with Brits at the moment!

Do take advantage of London’s fabulous museums. They're free, and you’ll see many residents there too!

Don’t worry which comes first- the cream before the jam or the jam before the cream!  Your afternoon scone and tea will taste delicious however you do it! Just eat and enjoy!

So immerse yourself fully in this city of hidden gems and customs.  Although you may not live here permanently, you can still appreciate London like the locals do, even if you are only visiting for a short break.  Make the most of your stay and try to live like residents do!

Remember though, to get a ‘round’ in, don’t get ‘miffed’ in the rush hour, or get ‘cream crackered’ when sightseeing.  Most importantly of all…..try not to ‘pop those clogs!’

We are so grateful for such positive feedback

We often hear our customers saying, ‘London is the place to be!’  Well it certainly is, although how often do you hear people speak about the accommodation they have been staying at during their trip to our glorious capital?  Often, you’ll find people saying, ’Where we stayed was okay but very expensive for what we got.’  Or maybe something along these lines, ‘Mmm, yes well, the place wasn’t large enough to swing a cat round and it was way out of the centre of the city.’

We, here at Euracom, have done our very best to ensure that none of these adverse comments apply to us.  We can proudly say, from the positive feedback that we have received over the years, from a substantial number of clients, that Euracom provides just what the customer needs, great service, great apartments in prime locations with great, competitive prices.

We love hearing such positive feedback- it means an awful lot to us and it’s what makes our job worthwhile.  For we know that although we can extol the virtues of all our apartments, saying how economical and fabulous they are and then tell you how great our service is, there is no better testimonial to our efforts than when you take the trouble to send us your incredible comments, recommending that Euracom is only place to go for an affordable, yet comfortable stay.

Here are just a few of the comments which have delighted us, coming from all over the world.

‘Thank you Euracom, we have had a wonderful stay in your apartment. It is very convenient, clean, near to lots of great sites and very comfortable. Thank you for your service. We visited the London Eye and plenty of other places and had a very nice journey in London. We will warmly recommend you to our friends and family‘

Doron Stein, Israel

‘From the outset, thank you for making our London visit a pleasurable experience! What we liked about dealing with Euracom is there was no pressure whatsoever and Robert was very patient with us - that helped build trust. We inspected the apartment prior to confirming the same - again, no pressure whatsoever. The process of booking the apartment was simple, transparent and quick. Our request for credit card payment was accommodated, which made it very easy. Wendy at Endsleigh Court was very helpful and showed us two apartment options. When we arrived at the apartment, everything was in order! The apartment was beyond our expectation, very clean, airy, lots of light and ventilation. Overall, it was a fantastic experience dealing with Robert as well as the team at Endsleigh Court. Special shout out for Wendy and the front desk team at Endsleigh Court who were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend both Euracom and Endsleigh Court to friends and family and look forward to our future stays there.‘

Vaishali Jaising, India

‘The booking process through Euracom was easy and our e-mail enquiries were always answered quickly with helpful, clear answers. The apartment itself was comfortable and suitable for our needs in a great location. I would recommend Euracom to my friends and family.‘

Michael and Juliana Whiteman, Australia

‘I would absolutely recommend working with Euracom.  The staff always quickly answered our demands, we really appreciated their help on many occasions and we cannot wait to book with them again!‘

Shlomo Hauser, Israel

‘Dear Euracom A Home in London - I have used Euracom for over 9 years now and I can say without a doubt it has been amazing on all of my holiday trips. I usually stay at Hampden house, which you refer to as budget, but I call it luxury for the simple fact it’s clean, it’s spacious and the location is great. The speed that you respond to enquiries, complaints or requests is amazing, you are so professional in everything you do. From bookings to check in‘s, to staying in, to the departure, everything is faultless. The staff are always so lovely, polite and kind. You always make us feel like royalty. I have stayed in many other apartments in London over the years, however none of them compare to the service that you provide us with. Last month, I had to stay in Bloomsbury because Hampden House was not available, they made sure I got the best services and the flat was spotless. I have recommended Euracom to loads of friends and family and they always call back to say thank you! I also wanted to use this as a great opportunity to say a big thank you to Kelly, who is always finding a way to accommodate me and my budget, Robert, Joe and Tania for all their continued help. You have given my family a home in London.‘

‘It’s been a pleasure dealing with Euracom. Response time is very good. Your prices are reasonable for your locations. I will definitely recommend you to my family and friends.‘

Enitan Solarin, Nigeria

‘We would like to thank all of you at Euracom for a first -class service and hopefully we will meet up again in the not too distant future‘.

Mike Ryan, Argentina

‘Thanks for the great service again, Euracom. My queries were promptly answered and the staff at the apartment were also very co-operative and helpful. I will certainly get in touch with you next time I‘m travelling to London‘.

Farzana Ali, India

‘I have found booking through Euracom an easy experience. The apartments have always been clean and comfortable with everything needed, and the staff at Euracom and at Endsleigh Court have always been friendly and helpful and the rates are very reasonable.‘

Robert Brian Bunton, Australia

‘ Great accommodation, prime location, excellent service and helpful staff. Rented a 3- bedroom apartment and it felt like home within first night! Top service, with hotel-like amenities but within the comfort of a cosy home.‘

Samar Mokbel, Lebanon

‘We have stayed in your Bloomsbury apartments more than once... It is one of our favourite places in London for many reasons: it is somewhere between a hotel and an apartment, with some of the advantages of each. It is very well located, clean and the staff are very friendly. The price is very fair and all in all it is always a very positive experience coming back. We have recommended Euracom to others and will continue to do so.‘

Ahuva Passow-Whitman, Israel

‘ Our stay in London was most enjoyable... From our initial enquiry, Euracom were very helpful with our apartment selection and booking. The reception staff were also very accommodating and welcoming. The apartment itself was clean and comfortable, perfect for our needs and plenty of room for our family of four. The location was ideal being within walking distance of public transport, parks, restaurants and shops. We will certainly contact Euracom again for future bookings.‘

Neil Bennie, Australia

‘Well, what can we say?  With such fabulous reviews why go anywhere else?  The evidence speaks for itself!  For a service second to none, with spacious apartments, conveniently situated near to Central London, there is no better place than Euracom to book your next holiday or business trip.  We’ll guarantee you the trip of a lifetime, without breaking the bank!  (Although we don’t recommend you swinging any cats around to test the size of our apartments, they will speak for themselves!)‘
