Student life in London

As a new academic year approaches many thousands of ‘freshers’ and ‘seasoned’ students will be arriving in the capital to begin, or continue their studies at university.

For students new to London, this can be a nerve-wracking, possibly scary, yet none the less exciting experience. Student life can take a little adapting to, (for starters - Mum won’t be around to do your laundry) although once you are used to it, it will be well worth all the trouble.

We provide the knowledge & expertise you need to find the best deals on student apartments in London.

Whether you are coming to London from abroad or indeed from somewhere else in Britain, moving away from your home and loved ones may seem pretty daunting at first, especially if you haven’t lived independently before.  However your student days will fly by, with a plethora of things to see and do in your free time, and by following a few golden rules you’ll make your stay a really enjoyable one.

  1. Watch your budget!
Whilst moving to the capital is undoubtedly exciting, it can be expensive! Often students can fall into the trap of taking in everything the city offers and blowing their budget all in one go! So try to keep track of your outgoings to avoid losing track of the amount you spend. Sticking to a budget is imperative if you have limited funds at your disposal, so remember to check your bank balance at regular intervals to avoid any problems. You can still have fun as a student by perhaps setting aside an amount for socialising!
  2. Do your research!
Take time to make a list of your likely outgoings whilst at uni.  Possibilities include;-  rent, course fees and books, utility bills like phone, heating, water rates, internet electricity, TV licence, food travel and clothing etc. It’s far better to overestimate your spending and be pleasantly surprised rather than being faced with higher bills that you had bargained for. Once done, you can save money by searching out cheaper places to eat/drink, along with bargain shops which offer lower priced necessities.
  3. Stay Safe!
Students are notorious for burning the midnight oil and the city has numerous events on offer which provide them with the opportunity to meet other people who have travelled from far and wide to study in London.  This said, you need to ensure that you stay safe, whether it be in your student accommodation or when travelling home, after meeting friends. So learn to be ‘street wise’ by keeping to well- lit main roads, avoiding walking alone at night, being aware of your surroundings, keeping your property out of sight and ensuring you and your friends check up on each other to ensure they’ve arrived home safely.  London is a very safe place, especially with our excellent transport network, but like any big city, it's worth taking a few sensible precautions. Better safe than sorry!

With so many attractions and facilities at your disposal, London provides students with the perfect base for trying new hobbies and activities.  From music, comedy, theatre and fashion, to art, history and sport, London has it all.
